Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cut the Lumber

Cut the 2x4 lumber according to the materials list. The leg pieces should be 8 feet long, the top rails should be 2 feet long, and the seat slats should be 12 feet long.

2. Assemble the Legs

Lay two of the 8-foot pieces of 2x4 side by side, parallel to each other, and spaced 2 feet apart. Drill two 2-inch wood screws through the top of one leg into the side of the other leg. Repeat with the other two legs.

3. Attach the Top Rails

Position the two 2-foot pieces of 2x4 across the tops of the legs, flush with the outside edges. Secure them with 1-inch wood screws.

4. Attach the Seat Slats

Lay the 12-foot piece of 1/2-inch plywood on top of the legs, centered between them. Secure it with 1-inch wood screws, spaced evenly apart.

5. Attach the Armrests

Cut the 1x4 lumber into two 12-foot pieces. Position one piece along the front edge of the seat, flush with the outside edge. Secure it with 1-inch wood screws. Repeat with the other piece on the back edge of the seat.

6. Sand and Finish

Sand the entire chair to remove any splinters or rough edges. Apply a sealant or paint to protect the wood and enhance its appearance.
